NITTY GRITTY SHOWCASED IN BOOTS
MINOR AILMENT SCHEME PROJECT

We were recently contacted by an enthusistic Boots Placement Student Fatima Dickie, who wanted to highlight our Nitty Gritty NitFree Comb in her Minor Aliments Service project at the Fife Central Retail Park branch of Boots.

NHS Minor Ailment Schemes (sometimes called Minor Ailment Service) have been set up all over the country (not just for Boots). It is a service that is offered to those who have young children (under 16 years of age) or those who don't pay for their prescriptions (i.e. those who receive benefits or those over 60 years of age), to enable pharmacists to give customers advice and treatment for a variety of 'minor ailments', thus freeing up valuable GP surgery time.

An infestation of head lice is considered a minor ailment and as the Nitty Gritty Comb is already listed on the NHS Drug Tariff and available on prescription, it is included on some Minor Ailment Schemes (these vary across the country).

We were delighted to support Fatima and send her some complimentary combs and Nitty Gritty leaflets for her presentation, enabling her to show Boots customers first hand, our great little Nitty Gritty Comb.

She told us 'What I aimed to get from my project is to make people aware of the service, to make them realise that they can get something relatively quickly at their local pharmacy to treat their ailment without having to wait forever at the doctors. Having said that, if the pharmacist thinks that the ailment requires more medical attention then they will recommend the patient go see their GP. Also, I highlighted to customers/patients that the service runs all year and it isn't an event/promotion that is running for a certain period.'

The project day was last week, and Fatima has just send us some photos telling us:
'The project day was successful and I managed to get 12 people to sign up to the service. The nitty gritty leaflets were a big hit ! I had a comb out of the packaging and a lot of people were interested in the feel of the comb and how it did not hurt."

Many thanks to Fatima and all the Boots staff at the FIFE CENTRAL RETAIL PARK store
